Welcome to Kim Carmel Writing & Design. I’m a freelance graphic designer and writer with more than 13 years in the field. I’m a little obsessed with my job. When I dream about pirates or kinkajous or my head turning into a carrot, I see gridlines and alignment arrows running across everything.
I love what I do, every day, and that’s a wonderful thing.
I specialize in print design – logos, stationery systems, infographics, brochures, ads, posters, banners, etc. – but I have experience in web design and more importantly, access to hot shot programmers if we need them. I’m also a huge fan of Squarespace and Weebly, and am happy to help you build your site through these fabulous services.
My Work Friends
My client list includes PIXAR, Disney, Umpqua Bank, U.S. Bank, Marine Stewardship Council, FishChoice.com, the Music Academy of the West, C’est Cheese Santa Barbara, Lara Grauer Photography, Renée Smith Events, Team Come True and many other wonderful companies, large and small. I tend to fit best with medium-sized companies who don’t have the budget or timeline to work with an agency but understand the value of quality, experienced design. However, I am always happy to speak with new clients about new projects, regardless of size.
Not a Diva
Designers have a reputation for being ... how can I put this delicately? ... arrogant divas who think their clients are idiots and their own ideas are pure artistic genius. Understandably, this can make for a challenging partnership.
I am very proud of the research, thought and effort I put into every design that I present. But, I also recognize that my clients know their own businesses and clientele far better than I do. I also represent only one opinion, while my clients are often speaking on behalf of several.
To that end, I see design as a highly collaborative process. My clients hire me because they trust my design expertise, and because they know I am very responsive to artistic direction. Successful graphic design is a group effort, and I'm happy to be part of the team.
